Teenage Girls rely on Rhythm Method for Birth Control

Teenage Girls Share

Recent research has been conducted in the US by the National Center for Health Statistics and was released on June 3, 2010. Unfortunately, there are some implications from this survey that does not sound good for the US teen. The alarming statistic shows that there is a significant increase in the number of teenage girl who are relying on rhythm method. They have study the different form of birth control and found out that 17% of sexually active teenage girl ages 15-19 years old uses the rhythm method from year 2006-2008. A total of 8 percent increase was notice from year 2002. This is something to worry about because calendar rhythm method doesn’t work 100 percent and can fail for 25 percent of the time. They are relying in the use of calendar method in order to know the safe times to have sex during a month. Teenage girl would rather be on abstinence in the days that they would most likely get pregnant. The teens will only rely on the calendar guessing their fertile and infertile days. Because of this the use of rhythm method would also leave them unprotected from STD’s and AIDS.

Most of the teenagers of today think that there is no big deal in being pregnant outside marriage. The study shows that 71 percent of females and 64 percent of males agree that it is okay for an unmarried female to get pregnant. Compare with the last survey the percentage of agreement has significantly increased from males when it was 50 percent in year 2002. While the agreement from females are the same. On the other hand, 58 percent of female and 47 percent of male teens commented that they would be worried and upset if they got pregnant or their partner got pregnant. About 14 percent of females and 18 percent males said that they would feel a little happy if they got pregnant or got a pregnant partner. It clearly shows that the teens of today are not motivated to avoid pregnancy.
