Toyota Motor to withdraw 139,420 iQ, Prius cars globally


Toyota Motor, the biggest automaker in the world, announced it will withdraw 139,420 iQ and Prius cars internationally for defects in brakes and electric power-steering.

The company, which is based in Toyota City, Japan, will repair the problems in power-steering in 105,784 Prius gasoline-electric hybrids and also in 33,636 iQ compact cars’ brakes. In addition, Toyota Motor formed an international quality committee last 2010, headed by President Akio Toyoda, following record of recalls for problems associated to unintentional acceleration.

It also formed new centers for technology all over the globe to collect data on so-called quality problems and accelerate decision making with regard to recalls. Toyota also said that the company will withdraw 58,000 Prius cars abroad, of which 52,000 will be in the United States, and 47,784 of it in Japan.

In addition, the company added that Toyota Motor will also repair 12,000 iQ compact cars abroad, largely in the United Kingdom, and 21,636 of it in Japan. Also, the Prius sedans to be withdrawn were created between October 1997 and May 2003, while the iQ compact cars were created between September 2008 and May 2010.

Toyota Motor struggled currently against image-battering over huge withdraws of Prius and iQ cars. The company also added that the unfastened nut in the electric power-steering can cause the cars, if operated over a long period of time, to steer with extra force.

Under the withdrawing of those cars, the dealers of the company will setup upgraded nuts free of charge. Toyota Motor stated that the revamp will take about four hours depending on how busy the service department of the dealer is, and that it will inform owners with regard to the withdraw starting next month.

Toyota Motor says to lessen auto manufacture in China


Toyota Motor announced on Wednesday it will lessen its auto manufacture in its factories in China by 50 percent to 70 percent until June 3 due to parts deficiency after the disasters.

The company formerly said that manufacture interruptions nationally and in the United States, Australia and European Union because of the recent crisis. As an outcome of the disasters happened last March 11, Toyota stated that it has certain that the manufacture of vehicles in China will be completed at 30 to 50 percent of normal from April 21 until June 3 because of lack in part supplies.

According to spokesperson of Toyota in Japan, that the hold back will bring manufacture deficit of almost 80,000 vehicles during the stated period. Paul Nolasco, the spokesperson of the company, also said that as they are manufacturing, they are maintaining a watchful eye on the conditions of their components.

The worldwide manufacture target for 2011 before the earthquake was 7.7 million vehicles. Moreover, the announcement of the company came on the day that the country stated that its trade surplus declined for about 80 percent last month, the preliminary fall in 16 months, since the impact of earthquake and tsunami devastated the country.

The hold back in China began on Thursday, and a decision on manufacture after June 3 will depend on the situation of parts supplies. Several major component makers in Japan are based in the northeastern part of the regions, where pants were wrecked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0.

Toyota Motor continues car manufacture in Japan


After the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, Toyota Motor continued its car manufacture in all of its plant in the country.

For the first time, the company resumed its production but the plants will operate at half capacity due to parts deficiencies. The number one automaker in the world stated that it will still under pressure to secure almost 150 kinds of car parts.

The earthquake happened last March with a magnitude of 9.0 and the subsequent tsunami demolished parts factories in the northeastern part of Japan that caused serious deficiencies of car parts. The double catastrophe forced the company to close down all its production in Japan expert of the three factories, which have been operating at limited capacity since the last period of March and early fall of April to make hot-selling Corolla, Lexus and Prius cars.

The 900 employees at auto plant of Toyota in Miyagi, one of the worst struck places in the catastrophes, observed a minute of silence for the victims of tsunami before they started their work on Monday. The earthquake and tsunami left almost 28,000 individuals missing or dead. In this place alone, police claimed that more than 8,400 individuals have been killed in the disasters.

Toyota Motor to postpone manufacture in North America


Toyota Motor will postpone the manufacture of vehicle for five days in North America due to continuing deficiencies of parts from the damaged suppliers in Japan.

This deficiency is also due to the devastating earthquake happened last month in the country. The biggest manufacturer in Japan had informed that its operation in North America will be affected by the massive earthquake and tsunami that interrupted its supply lines.

The assembly operations in Japan have been basically stopped since March 14, but it said on Friday that it will start again its domestic manufacture of vehicles on April 18. The output of the company will be around half its normal level, still, it the newest of many warnings that the re-establishment of auto industry in Japan is expected to be a halt and slow method.

In addition, Honda Motor and Nissan Motor also plan to restart its manufacture in the country this month, but lesser than their normal levels. Toyota also said that it will start again its operations in auto-assembly in Japan from April 18 to 27. It will then stop its output from April 28 to Amy 9, a period that consists of the holidays of the Golden week when plants are typically closed.

Toyota also said that a resolution on the manufacture on post-holiday will be made after evaluating the components supply conditions of the company. The officials added that they were slowly bringing back its supply lines.

Toyota Motor to launch plug-in model of hybrid in Japan, US, Europe


Toyota Motor said that it will launch a plug-in model of hybrid in Japan, the U.S. and Europe in early fall of 2012 for almost $36,000.

Furthermore, the company also said that it will launch 11 regular gas-electric vehicles by the end of 2012 as Toyota intends to maintain its position as the leading manufacturer of cars. The largest automaker plans to trade 50,000 cars every year.

In addition, Toyota will also add two electric cars that include a model that was based on its iQ compact that can go for 65 miles on a single charge.
