For the global pop culture advertisement campaign, the maker of Pepsi cola is planning to put the silhouette of the late Michael Jackson onto one billion Pepsi cola in can.
The limited edition Pepsi cola tin cans will be available first in China and in the United States later this month but it will be available in some other countries in Asia, South America and Europe as well later this year. The image of the late pop star will appear in some of his iconic poses for the advertisement that will go along with the silver anniversary of his album “Bad”. Some may remember the late king of pop appearing in the commercial of Pepsi cola as “the choice of a new generation” some times in the 80s.
The supporters of the musician may participate for a contest as well in order to win tickets for the show Cirque du Soleil, “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour”. As part of the campaign, estate of Jackson, Pepsi and Sony Music Company will be working hand in hand to share new mixes from the album of Jackson “Bad”.
The executives of Jacksons Estate, John Branca and John McClain released a statement saying that they are thrilled to bring the king of pop and Pepsi together in celebration for the 25th year anniversary of the album “Bad” and tour featuring the iconic poses of the singer in a billion Pepsi tin cans.
The limited edition Michael Jackson inspired tin cans is a part of New “Live for Now” campaign of Pepsi that is aiming to harness pop culture while increasing sales. At present, Pepsi cola is at the third spot in the declining sales of carbonated drinks in the United States. It is behind Coca-cola and Diet coke. Pepsi announced earlier this week that rapper Nicki Minaj will be featured in a Pepsi commercial still as part of the “Live for Now” campaign.
Jackson has been attached to Pepsi since early 1980s following his appearance along with the Jackson 5 brothers in a Pepsi advertisement. However, the memories of the singer with Pepsi is not always good because the famous hair of Michael was caught by fire while shooting a Pepsi commercial in Los Angeles exposing his scalp. The accident was blamed to addiction of painkillers of the musician leading to his confinement rehabilitation center for proper treatment in early 1990s.
The king of pop passed away at the age of 50 years as a result of Profofol and sedative overdose while his doctor is serving four year of imprisonment in Los Angeles as a result of involuntary killing. However, the fans of the musician keep on supporting him in terms of album sales. This might be the reason behind Jackson is back with Pepsi. Sales of carbonated drinks keep on decline and Jackson may somehow lend a hand in this particular dilemma.
