Egyptian actor Omar Sharif is indeed a perfectionist when it comes to manners. TMZ reported that “Lawrence of Arabia” star slapped a woman when she cut in line to take a picture along with Sharif. The incident happened when the actor attended The Doha Tribeca Film Festival in Qatar last Thursday morning.
As the woman walked towards the direction of Sharif in the red carpet and asked for a photograph with him, the actor yelled in Arabic stating the girl to wait for her turn. Sharif slapped the girl while yelling words in Arabic. Sharif does not tolerate such behavior for the woman wanted to obtain a photograph first despite the fact that other supporters of the actor are waiting for their turn patiently. On the other hand, the girl did not leave the area but she stuck around and waited for her turn instead. During her turn, he smiled beside the actor as if nothing happened earlier. Rumor arise that the fan is just collecting evidence following the incident.
This is not the first time that Sharif is associated in such situation. He stroked a police officer in July at a suburban Parisian Casino. The Pontoise police officer is about to intervene for the reason that Sharif and a casino dealer has an argument but Sharif insulted the officer and gave him a head butt. The incident resulted in a month long suspended imprisonment sentence issued on August 05, 2003. In addition, he also paid $340 to the police officer for damages along with an amount equivalent to $1, 700 as a fine.
The 79-year-old Hollywood actor was involved in a similar circumstance last February 23, 2007. Sharif attacked a parking lot attendant physically in the parking space at Beverly Hills. He was found guilty about the incident after finding out that the nose of her victim was broken.
In spite of having a history of hotheaded physical exchanges to strangers that the actor met, many people are admiring him for his talent in acting that is evident in films that he made. He started in acting in the year 1953 in the successful movie entitled “Sira Fi al-Wadi”. After his first move, he appeared in over 20 Egyptian movies along with his wife Faten Hamama. After establishing a career in Egypt, he played numerous roles in his movies, from German military officer, Crown prince of Austraia to Che Guevarra.
Later on, the Egypt government does not agree with his decision to work with the actress Barbra Streisand because the actress is supporting the state of Israel. In 1962, Sharif starred in his first English language movie “Lawrence of Arabia” of David Lean as Sherif Ali. His performance in the movie is amazing that is why he was one of the nominees for the category Best Supporting Actor in Oscars. He received Best Supporting Actor – Motion picture from Golden Globe Awards for his performance in that movie as well.
Despite of having a perfectionist behavior, Sharif underwent major heart operation in 1992 but still experienced heart attacked in 2004 probably due to excessive smoking. Following the surgical operation done to him, the actor quitted in smoking. He is now living in Cairo along with his family.
