Miami Heat defeated Boston Celtics Sunday night, ending the game with 99-90 and opening their Eastern Conference semifinal series with five technical fouls.
According to reports, Dwayne Wade set the intensity of the game and finished with 38 points on 14 of 21 shooting. The 29-year old shooting guard had nine field goals and 23 points by halftime.
In the first quarter, Wade steal to set up Mario Chalmers’ layup with 0.1 second left that put Miami up 20-14. He also added a spectacular buzzer-beater near halftime. Sunday night’s game has been a physical game for both Heat and Celtics. According to reports, there has been plenty of hitting and jawing during the entire game. Paul Pierce got a pair of technical fouls about 59 seconds apart for taking too much exception to fouls by Jones and Wade.
Pierce got his first technical for making contact with James Jones of Miami after play had been stopped. The second was called after he set a screen for Wade, who collided with him at nearly a full sprint. Pierce was taken out of the game and finished with 19 points. Nevertheless, Celtics still tried to pull through, restoring a double digit lead that was not again seriously threatened.
Wade dove headfirst into a sea of Heat fans behind the baseline in the final minutes in his attempt to save a ridiculously overthrown pass by Chalmers. In an interview after the game, Wade said that they ought to fight in every inch and every game they get. Even though they won Game 1, he said that they will go back to focus on winning Game 2.
