Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz Pledge to Donate Earnings to Charity

Mark Zuckerberg Share

Facebook founders Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz pledged to donate at least half of their earning to charity.

According to the two founders of Facebook, they decided to join 15 other billionaires in a pledge to donate half of their wealth to charity. This move of the two young Facebook founders is their way to encourage other wealthy people in America to participate in this pledge led by Bill Gates, Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet.

The 26-year-old Zuckerberg stated that most people wait until late in their career to help other. Furthermore, the chief executive and president of Facebook thinks that why should he wait when there is so much to be done?

Based on the Forbes magazine, Zuckerberg has an estimated $6.9 billion wealth. This makes him one of the billionaires in the U.S., as well as the youngest wealthiest guy in the elite society.

Moreover, Zuckerberg is alongside with fellow Facebook founder Moskovitz, junk bond pioneer Michael Milken, American Online (AOL) founder Steve Case, and investor Carl Icahn in this advocacy. Together with other 40 billionaires who pledged, they will be donating half of their earnings to charity in August.

Aside from the Gates and Buffet, other billionaires partake in this philanthropy drive like New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, pharmaceutical tycoon Patrick Soon-Shion, Hollywood director George Lucas, and Oracle founder Larry Ellison.

The idea of “Giving Pledge” is to invite the wealthiest individuals and families in the U.S. to commit in giving majority of their wealth for philanthropic causes and charitable organizations.

According to a statement on the Giving Pledge website, this pledge is a moral commitment to share and give, but not a legal contract.”
