Microsoft’s manufacturing partners finally laid hands on the new Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system.
The new operating system for smartphones, developed by Microsoft, reached its release-to-manufacturing status September 1.
After receiving copies of the operating system for smartphones, Microsoft’s partners are expected to incorporate it with their devices.
The multinational corporation plans to release Windows Phone 7 smartphones during the holiday shopping season of 2010. Microsoft hopes that consumers would lean to their products instead of existing smartphones in the market.
Terry Myerson, corporate vice president of Windows Phone Engineering, wrote on a posting on The Windows Blog that Microsoft’s smartphone operating system is the most thoroughly tested platform for mobile use. He also noted that they had about ten thousand devices running on automated tests daily, active self-hosting use for over a half million hours, stress test passes for over three and a half million hours, and fully automated test passes for about eight and a half million hours.
The corporate vice president also stated on an earlier post on the same blog the when the operating system rached its “technical preview” status, more that 1,000 of Microsoft’s employees tested it for the past few months, testing it for batter life, usability, and network capability. During that time, LG Electronincs, ASUS, and Samsung sent prototype phones to developers.
Microsoft hopes that those developers would a big environment of mobile applications for its Windows Phone Marketplace.
Windows Mobile 6.5, a smarphone operating system that Microsoft released previously, is supposed to be the “placeholder” for the company’s mobile market share. However, the company’s share declined since the release of smartphones from Google and Apple.
However, Microsoft’s Chief Executive officer said that, Microsoft promises to give the consumers a set of Windows-based devices that the consumers will proud to carry.
