But the conservatives’ call was disregarded by tens of thousands of Moroccans who came to witness Elton John’s performance.

Elton John told to thousands of crowd, “It’s the first time I’ve been to Morocco and I’m really happy to come to Rabat to sing.”

Elton John brought a two-hour concert and showed a very powerful and striking performance despite of his 40 years in show business.

Mawazine is one of a kind festival that highlights world music. This spectacular nine-day event takes place annually in the Moroccan capital of Rabat. The festival has become a symbol of cultural diversity by hosting artists from different cultural backgrounds. Arab and international music icons are always featured in this wonderful event. Mawazine festival is one of the several events to promote the image of Morocco as a city open to the world.

And because of this fact, the conservatives asked the organizers of Mawazine festival to cancel Elton John’s performance. Because of being gay, Elton John was judged by some Moroccan conservatives. However, the organizer didn’t listen to the conservatives’ calls. Even people did not care about the issue. Spectators all over the country came to witness this very special event and were not stopped by the controversy surfaced before John’s concert.
