Carl Crawford tried out his injured left cramp while playing catch on the field before their game with the Padres.
According to Terry Francona, manager of the Red Sox, Crawford has been testing to keep as many baseball proficiencies from getting impaired as possible. The manager also said that he has been on the cycle and he is also working out with the trainers.
Crawford made an early leave from Friday’s game with injured left cramp, as he stopped while running to third on an infield single in the preliminary inning. In spite of the news that the injury of Crawford was a minor strain, the team took no options but to place him on the 15 days disabled list the next day.
Provided that Crawford has to run in the outfield and in the bases, the danger of aggravating his damage if he returns in the game is high. He is on the disabled list for the second time around in his career. His preliminary absence was in 2008 for hand damage. The Red Sox is positive that he will only need the minimum stay.
Crawford is entitled to come back from the 15 days disabled list on July 2, when the team will be in the hometown of Crawford to play the Astros during the Interleague Play. Francona added that he believe that it is practical that when Crawford’s two weeks are up, he will be ready for the game. Darnell McDonald and Josh Reddick have divided the tasks in left field in the absence of Crawford, with McDonald getting the initiates against lefties and Reddick against righ-handers.
Furthermore, the Red Sox’s manager is amazed with the attitude of Reddick and adulthood level this season. Reddick is third in the Majors, but the 24-year-old outfielder needs to keep on developing with pitch selection.
