Venus, Serena Williams to play at Rogers Cup

The player listings at Rogers Cup, which will be held on August 6 to 14 in Toronto, will include Venus and Serena Williams.

According to Serena Williams, 13 times Grand Slam singles champion, she and Venus are excited to go to Toronto this summer to play at Rogers Cup at Wimbledon this week. Serena also said that she is thrilled to compete for the championship of Rogers Cup. The Williams sisters confirmed their participation in the game.

Serena Williams Withdraws 2011 Australian Open

Tennis superstar Serena Williams decided to withdraws in the 2011 Australian Open Championship.

Nadal triumphs over Djokovic, wins 2010 US Open

Capra is the youngest and lowest ranked player who participated in this year’s tournament. In the third round, she will try to beat the odds, as she will go against 14th-seeded and former U.S. Open champion Maria Sharapova, the player that Oudin have beaten last year.

Maria Sharapova won against Jarmila Groth in the first round, and cruised her way into a victory against Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic last September 2 to move on to the third round.

In an interview, Sharapova was asked about her opinions about the idea of playing against Capra in the third round of the tournament. She said that the great thing about the U.S. Open, to see young and talented American tennis players thriving on the court.

Nadal Moves Up to Second Round of US Open

Rafael Nadal is victorious over Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili after three sets, in a match held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium Tuesday night.

The Spanish tennis phenom did not have an easy win against Gabashvili. It may be a three set victory for Nadal, but it does not necessarily mean that it was an easy task for him. The scoring per set shows how hardly contested the three sets were. The scores were 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), and 6-3 all three sets going to Nadal.

According to Nadal, he hopes that he would continue serving like that in the next matches that he will participate in. He said that his serve is not his best shot, but he always tries his best in improving. He also added that he knows that if he wants to have a shot of claiming the US Open championship in any year, he needs to serve very well.

The match between Nadal and Gabashvili was not finished until 11:32 p.m. This is due to prolonged matches that came earlier before their game. Their match also lasted for almost three hours. This win increases Nadal’s Grand Slam winning streak to fifteen wins.

The 24-year old Nadal has won eight Grand Slam titles, a record setting eighteen Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments, and an Olympic gold medal for representing his country in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He is regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time. In 2008, he was awarded with the Prince of Asturias Award, acknowledging his achievements in the sport of Tennis. Currently, he is third place in the All-time leader in earnings.

In the second round of the US Open, Rafael Nadal will be going against Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, who is currently ranked 39th overall in the men’s division.

Djokovic triumphs over Troicki

No.3 ranked Novak Djokovic wins over fellow Serbian and friend Viktor Troicki on the first round competitions of U.S. Open.

After three and a half hours of playing under intense heat due to the weather, third seed Djokovic defeated the 47th seed Troicki in five grueling sets. The scores were 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, and 6-3 in favor of the third seed athlete.

The audiences in Arthur Ashe court at Flushing Meadows were all witnesses to an intense battle between two Serbian players giving their all amidst the harsh temperature. After the match, Djokovic emerged victorious, but both players were spent as the extreme heat drained their strength. He will get two days of rest before he plays again, a much-needed rest to prepare for his next match.

In an interview, Djokovic stated that somebody in the audience was constantly telling him to hang on and that was exactly what he did. He also added that he have to give credit to his friend Troicki because of the 47th seed’s incredible serving. However, Troicki’s lost will eliminate him from the competition.

Djokovic has won the Grand Slam singles title once in his career. He is also the youngest player in the open era to have reached the semifinals of four Grand Slam events. He also ranked No. 2 in the males’ singles division last February 2010. He is currently the third seed in the men’s division, Rafael Nadal being the top seeded player and followed by Roger Federer at No.2. On other first round matches, USA’s James Blake defeated Kristof Vliegen of Belgium in three sets, while Arnauld Clement of France ousted Marcos Bagthdatis of Cyprus in five sets.
